Heavy stuffs regarding Brokeback Mountain

Well, I wrote something about Brokeback Mountain and wanted to remain as neutral as possible. Somehow or other, someone emailed me and I am speechless. Haih

Why people never write to me with praises (except for my food blog got la) but very fast to condemn? Why people never read the words I wrote but read the in-betweens, those not written? Why people buta-buta jump and claim that I condone this and that act? Why people think that they need to point out which faith I belong to? Why people so quick to tell me that my ‘support’ for Brokeback Mountain can be detrimental to people’s perception?

If the person has read more carefully before being blinded by his own conclusions, he would have noted that I said the movie is good. THE MOVIE. THE MOVIE.

So, just to calm myself that I am not sesat, let me put these down. I copied them from Catholic Answers as it is hard for me to explain coherently. Full explanation can be found on their Gay Marriage page.

The term homophobic refers to fear of homosexuality. This term often is used by homosexual activists to end rational discussion of the issue by accusing their opponents of having an irrational fear. This is unjust. One can disagree with and be critical of a behavior without having a fear of it. When the charge of “homophobia” is made, it signifies that those making the accusation do not have reasoned responses to their critics, so they switch to portraying their critics as irrational rather than responding to their arguments.

So, I learn a new word – homophobic refers to fear of homosexuality. This term often is used by homosexual activists to end rational discussion of the issue by accusing their opponents of having an irrational fear. This is unjust.

We have to remember that all people are created in the image of God and deserve to be treated as such, no matter what their behavior. We make a distinction between person and behavior, sometimes expressed as “hate the sin, love the sinner.” The Catechism describes homosexual acts as “intrinsically disordered”: “They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.”4

Note : distinction between person and behavior

Because it is intrinsically disordered, we must not recognize homosexual activity as legitimate, and we must not give public approval to homosexual marriage because of the harm that will do to the institution of marriage and because of the social harm that will result from emptying marriage of its meaning. Perhaps the most serious social harm would be to children: the children of divorce and the children of same-sex couples, who will suffer all the ills we have discussed.

Society has a lot to lose from legalizing homosexual marriage. And homosexuals have nothing to gain.

This sentence : we must not give public approval to homosexual marriage Yes, I never approve nor condone anything in my previous post. It was just a movie review. I never say that Elton was doing the right thing, ok?

Happy now? And please, don’t anyone give me any websites that claim that Christianity allows same sex sexual relationship. My faith will guide me. The Holy Spirit will give me the wisdom. I do need any further arguments.

Oh well, since I am on all holy-moly, let me add this:

Politics and religions have always inter-mingled. To put it simply, campur-aduk macam rojak tau? That’s why Jesus was killed. That’s how our churches were divided. Remember?

So, next time don’t email me personally unless you are my church member whom I know face-to-face or you have dropped regular comments in my blog. Otherwise, you are like a bisul (pus) in the butt. I can’t get rid of it and yet, no one sees my discomforts.

  4. I don’t find anything contradicting to your faith in your previous post about the gay movie. Lilian, did the person who emailed you quote any scripture?? If yes, can you tell me what and if not, then just tell the person biblical arguments can only based on scripture…not mere feelings or self-beliefs.

  5. some people just don’t understand that blogs are personal point of views and if they don’t agree then they have the power to not read ( just like tv and films ).
Keep on writing as you’ve always done ! i enjoy it !when ppl start to censor what they want to say then it’s better to move to a country that does not allow that.

  6. wat to do auntie…got so many sanctimonious (new word of the day?) areseholes out there.

of an unrelated topic……SAVE KATIE HOLMES (from tom cruise)!

  7. Just read in the news yesterday about parents discovering that their son was visiting gay websites. Religion says it’s wrong but I guess gays were always around and now they are coming out of the closet.

    Yvy – 🙂

Adam -It is good to that these parents open their eyes and know that this is ‘normal’. Question is wtf have we parents (as in the gahmen too) done to guide our children? Try to shove everything under the carpet and pretend the world is made of sugar and spice and everything nice? Or pull these out and deal with it?

  10. I thought it’s funny you get ‘hate mails’. I thought you have in advance asked people not to flame you regarding your views in your first post. LOL

  11. Sam – Hahaha, your link! No, I wouldn’t call it hate mail but rather good advice mail. Still it is hard to swallow.

sooi2 – Ok ok, I go carry banner that says ‘SAVE BRAD FOR SOOI2’

moot – life is like that

jian – Aiyah, I must ask Uncle Ho want to make me a distributor anot liao.

  12. I found nothing in your review that would make it sound like you where in support of homosexuality. Just cause I love horror movies (the gorier the better) doesn’t mean I condone murder. Some people just don’t seem to understand that.
